Erie County Health Department

Sandusky, Ohio

Erie County Two-Story Addition

Erie County General Health District

Scope of work was to design a new addition to the existing health department providing much needed exam rooms, enlarged waiting room, offices and meeting rooms. This building is highly used on a daily basis, required a design that maximized workflow for both clients & staff, and designed to filter natural light into every space to create an environment that improves the well-being of those inside.

The first floor consists of alterations to the existing Waiting Room to transform it into a welcoming Lobby, create a much larger Waiting Room with 45 seats and provide lots of windows for maximum natural lighting. This first floor has (15) fifteen new Exam Rooms and a second connecting Corridor that allows staff to move freely from their offices to the patient areas. The Basement has a large Conference Room with an adjacent Break Room which allows for catering set-up without interruption. Lite wells were integrated into the design to allow natural light into this large conference room in the basement. Additionally, this floor has toilet rooms and several storage spaces in adjacent spaces that provide necessary storage of table and chairs for flexible set-up of varying meeting sizes and configurations.

The second floor has demountable glass partition wall system between offices and to the corridor. This provides maximum flexibility of design for this entire floor and allows the health dept to adjust according to future staffing needs. The floor to ceiling glass partitions and sliding glass doors maximizes the natural light penetrating all offices on this floor.

The exterior has a new canopy extending from the parking lot to the main entry doors. The parking lot will be expanded to add (45) additional parking spaces and redesigned to improve traffic flow around the facility.
