Ability Works Sensory Room

Sandusky, Ohio

SCOPE: Design a one-story addition with new stairs and incline platform lift to existing basement. This basement was previously only for storage but adding the incline lift allows staff to provide additional programming and therapy services along with access to Meeting Rooms in this lower level.

The first-floor sensory therapy addition (2,100 SF) provides a state-of-the art sensory integration system along with necessary software and hardware control system allowing staff to fully adjust the system and sensory stations according to their clients’ specific needs. All new furniture, color changing LED lights, water tower feature, ADA Toilet Room, covered patio, fish tank and private sensory room were incorporated into this space. The new addition has its own separate entry allowing the space to be used by the community without interrupting daily activities at their existing ambulatory care facility & offices. A 600 SF covered patio allows for therapy services to be conducted outdoors on nice days. Expanded parking lot and new entrance drive allows for better flow of buses during drop-off and pick-up times and provides adequate parking for staff and guests.
